Ohhh, I am immensely miffed off right now (that's the nice way to put it anyway) I bought a new coat yesterday, overjoyed and basking in it's utter perfection, I happened to stumble onto the website this evening and see they've halved the price! *sighs in exasperation* Uhh, still, I adore my coat in all it's oxblood glory, it's just frustrating... beautiful, but frustrating.
Rant aside, I've gota admire the aesthetics of the coat; the colour contrast is just glorious (conveniently enough my two favourite colours at the moment), the double breasted gold buttons (which hold a certain resemblance to the doorknobs on my wardrobe... aha, it feels like this coat was made for me ;) oh and not overlooking the coat's general structure, which is in my view, utterly endearing. It's a swing coat; the style of which was very popular in the late 50s / early 60s, it's classic shape and generous fit (brilliant to go over layering in the cold weather) and the gentle swinging motion it makes as I move actually makes me want to skip with childlike glee, tehehe.
...Ahh, you know what? I don't regret a thing, I love this coat! In the words of Jessie J' "Why is everybody so serious? Money can't buy us happiness!" ... maybe not, but clothes sure can ;)
(p.s. comments are turned off for this post 'cuz I'm still so backlogged, but I plan on posting again tomorrow, so until then, TTFN!)
Whimsical (adj. whim·si·cal) : determined by chance or impulse rather than by necessity or reason. "Capricious, peculiar, playfully odd, spontaneous, light-hearted or amusing". (Warning: pointlessly lengthy post, you have been warned...) 'Whimsical' is officially my new favourite word. (Uhh, you have a favourite word? Isn't that a little weird?... Yeah well, so's your face, aha-ha.) Oh but seriously, I've come to think it describes my style / personality pretty well. I've been having a style dilemma recently (sort of torn between 'who I am and who I want to be') but after a while I realised, why do I have to stick to just one style? That's like only ever eating one flavour of ice cream *shivers at the thought*. Which is perfectly fine if you only like that one flavour, but I like to mix it up a bit from time to time, mostly because I'm impossibly fickle... So when the man in the 'Mr Whippy' van asks me which flavour of ice cream I want, I put the same level of thought into my answer as if a friendly shop assistant had asked me if I'm looking for a range / style of clothing in particular (which they never do, but theoretically) my answer is this; Raspberry sorbet (the equivalent of romantic, sweet, feminine) + triple chocolate (darker, richer, all be it a little messy) = the perfect ice cream / style combo in my whimsical little world. Of course if I accidentally swapped these metaphors I get pretty bizarre expressions cast back at me. Asking Mr Whippy for something 'romantic but dark' I wouldn't be surprised if he leapt out of his van and threw himself into my arms... nope, not surprised, more like utterly horrified, as the average age a standard Mr Whippy ice cream vendor is about 45. - - - - Anywhoo, random rant aside, I've been feeling a little depressed this week (winter blues I suppose...) so how do I cheer myself up? By acquiring a rather 'spiffing' pair of metallic shoes of course! tehe. I'm wearing them here with a pair of iridescent tights that I got for Christmas, which are awesome (mmm-hmm, awesome, it goes without saying, but wow I said it anyway, just to stress my point. So yeah, awesome.)
I know I've posted this 'Just Jack' song before but I really like it. The sounds of violins makes me happy, I used to play myself, but dear old Rosie (that's what I named my violin, oh yes I name things) is tucked safely beneath a mountain of clothes on the off chance that musical pirates raid the house to kidnap her... it's not just because my room is untidy, nope, I'm much cleaverer than that... so cleaver in fact I just realised 'cleaverer' is not a real word, oohhh.
Today's Anthem: "Embers" by Just Jack.
(p.s. "Happy New Year!" to all you fabulous people who visit my blog, you have no idea how happy your comments make me, so spread a little joy, yeah? ;)
...(p.p.s sorry if I've confused / mortified you with my ice cream rant, I'm clearly on a sugar high, so if you managed to read all that than 'Congratulations you are a total legend!' but you've also lost about 5 minutes of your life... was it worth it? Meh, probably not, but I truly love you for your other-worldly level of enthusiasm. Cheers m'dears!)
It's my birthday tomorrow! Gaaaaah, I've been dreading it all week and suddenly I'm soo excited! "It's the big 1-8 mate!"
Onto other news... I've been oh so very good and I haven't been clothes shopping in over a month so I've saved up all my pennies to go on a 'lil old spree in topshop (I'm helplessly addicted to that place - I swear if I was rich I'd have a mini topshop store in my closet)...
These are my current "topshop must-haves" - I've already acquired the first two which I'm super pleased about. I went to go visit the baseball jacket 4 times before the petite version came out but I'm soo glad I waited because the petite jacket fits soo much better. Oh and the dress is a little masterpiece... the sequin flowers around the neckline reminded me of the current season Miu Miu dress embellishments (but obviously not reaching that same level of perfection) so I do believe after a few wears the sequins will starts to disperse and disappear but I don't really mind because the dress itself is still undoubtedly fabulous. It's a shift style with a sheer top layer, which makes an amazing bell shape when I spin really fast. I feel just a little magical when I wear it, so it's the perfect thing to wear to my birthday meal tomorrow night. The cream cable knit jumper is oh-so cosy, but for £48 I think it's pretty steep so I'm gona hunt for a vintage one instead *fingers crossed*. The velvet leggings are really nice too, but I could only find the red version in store so I'm gona have to go check again soon.
I'm sure you all wana hear about my shopoholic-ism... I swear I could re adapt Alice in Wonderland and call it 'Spence in Spendsville' - a less successful, heavily clothes related ripoff of the classic tale, ivolving; adventure (wandering through new realms of fashion), love (of the clothes of course... and the attractive Topman shop assistant ;) and not over looking the endless series of death defying stunts (such as squeezing into a dress two sizes too small for me and bargaining an extra 10% off from the scary lady behind the till).
Personally I think it could be a best seller... maybe? Ok, never.
- - - - - This is what I wore today; sorry for the bad quality but due to the weather (and general laziness) I couldn't get any better shots. And yeah you guessed it, I'm in a changing room, but it was a spur of the moment idea and I do honestly already own the clothes I'm wearing, aha. The bowler hat (folder over to look like a 20's style cloche hat) is from H&M, stripey cardigan from Topshop, lace crop top from New Look, and the skirt was thrifted.
Arghhh, I still can't believe I'm turning eighteen tomorrow! :O
TTFN sweethearts! (p.s. you're utterly amazing is you read all that - like the Snoopy to my Charlie Brown ;) x x x
